Snowmaiden is a progressive metal band influenced a by a variety of instrumental sounds — primarily metal. Lyrically, the music is inspired by the old Russian folklore of "Snegurochka": a mystical maiden of snow who tragically melts under the warm spell of love.
"Snowmaiden or Snegurochka is the daughter of Spring the Beauty and Father Frost in Slavic folklore. Her heart is frozen and cold from the beginning of existence. She is meant to stay in the winds of winter for eternity. Even though, her heart is unable to know love, it yearns for the companionship of mortal humans. Her mother takes pity and gives her this ability, but as soon as she falls in love, her heart warms and she melts with the first rays of the great Sun"Before the band arrived at its current conception, Snowmaiden (previously known as Daylong) went through several lineup changes. Before the band had arrived at its current theme, Snowmaiden (previously known as Daylong) went through several lineup changes. The band now consists of operatic vocalist Alina Gavrilenko and guitarist Eric Amshukov.
Inspired by her classical background in music as well as her Russian heritage, Alina infuses a wide range of operatic melody with her Slavic themed lyrical creativity incorporating a truly traditional cantata. Over the last couple of years she competed in multiple Canadian classical music festivals such as Peel, Burlington and Rotary where she became an award winner. She also has experience of going to the provincial vocal festival competing among the classical singers of Ontario. Currently Alina studies classical voice and Bel Canto at the University of Western Ontario, London.

Eric Amshukov:
Demonstrating a sufficient understanding of music, Eric initially belongs to a select group of people who dared to pick up the guitar following the mandatory introduction of the ukulele in grade school. Fast forwarding several years, he began to discover many bright metal genres that helped shape his resolve in becoming a better person and musician. With the fateful banding of Snowmaiden, Eric now utilizes his cultivated skills and attempts to harness the powers of melodic brutality in order to bring forth many of the orchestrations that still may lay dormant...
